Top 5 Orthopaedic Players Post Revenue Growth

Revenue from orthopaedics’ five largest players—DePuy Synthes, Zimmer Biomet, Stryker, Smith & Nephew and Medtronic—grew by $671.7 million in 2016, up 2.4% from 2015, to reach $28.6 billion.

The year-over-year increase was supported by a return to growth in joint reconstruction, acquisitions across all major industry segments and an easing of challenges in ex-U.S. regions.

Interestingly, market share of the combined Top 5 is down another percent this year to 59%, indicating that the next-tier players (Arthrex, DJO, NuVasive, Aesculap, Wright Medical, Globus Medical, Sanofi, Orthofix, ConMed and Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation) are inching up.
