Lima Corporate Completes Acquisition of Zimmer Biomet Assets in Japan

Lima Corporate completed its acquisition of the Zimmer® Unicompartmental High Flex Knee (ZUK) and the Discovery™ Elbow for the Japanese market. ZUK will be rebranded as Physica ZUK™. Lima will also take over the supply chain for these products.

Lima estimates the Japanese knee market to be >US $450MM, with unicompartmental knees representing ~4.5% of the total knee market, and the Japan elbow market to be >$2.4MM. Lima presently sells the SMR® Modular Shoulder in Japan.

Lima Japan opened in 2004. With this acquisition, the company has created new collaborations with >800 hospitals in Japan alone.

ORTHOWORLD estimates the overall Japanese orthopaedic market to be valued at ~$3.5 billion, with large joints alone claiming 39% of that, and small joints 2%. In Japan, a population that is shrinking in numbers yet advancing in age will support a continued need for hip and knee replacements that allow a high range of flexion and accommodate small anatomies.
