JNJ Launches Health Partner Digital Patient Engagement Platform

Johnson & Johnson Health and Wellness Solutions (JNJ) introduced Health Partner, its latest platform of digital tools to prepare patients for hip or knee surgery. The tools leverage behavior change strategies that are designed to enhance the patient's engagement in pre- and post-op compliance, thus potentially supporting improved outcomes, reduced length of stay and fewer readmissions. (There is also a suite of tools for weight management.) 

Health Partner comprises an educational website, mobile app and provider portal, intended to build patient confidence while facilitating communication and offering real-time progress data and analysis for the healthcare system.

Results from JNJ's Voices for Value Insight series of surveys indicate that a majority of health system executives and clinicians are interested in using behavior science to adjust patient and caregiver expectations and interactions with health systems, as well as to help patients comply with their care plans. A majority of survey respondents expressed interest and belief in the use of digital tools. 

Johnson & Johnson is the parent company of DePuy Synthes, which by ORTHOWORLD estimates was third of the top five companies ranked by 2016 Joint Reconstruction revenue (including hip, knee and extremities replacement). DePuy Synthes trailed the Joint Recon leader, Zimmer Biomet, by nearly $1,700.0MM and #2 company, Stryker, by about $93.0MM. For the first 9 months of 2017, DePuy Synthes' hip revenue of $1,047.8MM rose 1.9% vs. the prior year, and knee revenue of $1,143.8MM declined by -0.2%. 

Other engagement tools offered by JNJ include ADVANTAGE™ Outpatient Solutions, launched in 2015, and the CareAdvantage and Orthopaedic Episode of Care Approach services for health systems, launched earlier this year. Health Partner is part of JNJ's CareAdvantage service.
