Study Results from Inspired Spine's MIS Direct Thoracic Interbody Fusion Procedure
Study results indicate that the minimally invasive direct thoracic interbody fusion or MIS-DTIF, offered by Inspired Spine, was shown to alleviate back pain in patients with degenerative disc disease or herniation.
MIS-DTIF is a single-surgeon procedure. The study included four participants and measured patient-reported pain, surgery time and complications. Pre-op, patients reported an average of 8.8 out of 10 on sliding pain scale. At the first follow-up post-op, patients reported pain reduced to 3.5 out of 10.
Further, procedure time was ~1 hour and hospital stay ~2 days, though certain patients are reported to return home the day after surgery.

In early 3Q16, Medtronic launched the Pivox™ Oblique Lateral Spinal System with Lateral Plate for OLIF25™ and Divergence-L™ Anterior/Oblique Lumbar Fusion System for OLIF51™. MDT's OLIF technique is intended to minimize muscle cutting and employs an oblique-lateral trajectory to access multiple levels of the lumbar spine.
