Engineers at MIT have developed a hydroxyapatite-based coating for implants that may help joint replacements, fixation plates and screws better adhere to bone. The film's thickness and amount of growth factor released are controlled through layer-by-layer assembly, increased until the desired thickness and drug composition are achieved. (MIT News, 4/19/12)
