aap Gains Funding to Support Antibacterial Silver Coating Technology -

aap Implantate received a funding commitment of up to €0.7 million (~USD $0.8 million) to conceive and qualify a human clinical study to support market approval of its antibacterial silver coating technology. The funding comes from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and aap can receive grants of up to €2.7 million for expenses incurred by undertaking the study. The company still needs approval from the ethics commissions in Germany before the study can begin. Participating physicians have been trained and equipment (silver-coated implants) has been prepared at corresponding clinics. The grant is part of BMBF's Health Industry in the Health Research Framework Programme, whereby funding will be offered for projects that fall under "Transferring medical technology solutions into patient care - proving clinical evidence without delay." The purpose of the program is to introduce small and medium-sized enterprises to changing legal and regulatory conditions, and support them in the clinical validation of medical technology solutions.
