Wright Medical entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Biotech International, an orthopaedic extremities company in France, for up to US $80MM in cash and stock. The transaction is expected to close in 4Q13, before which Biotech will divest its dental business. For the 12 months ended 6/30/13, Biotech posted extremity revenues in the $15MM range. MedPlast, provider of injection molding, clean assembly, packaging and sterilization services, acquired Orthoplastics, a provider of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) products and components for global OEMs serving the orthopaedic device implant market. (Orthoplastics Ltd and MedPlast, Inc., 10/7/13)

Mesoblast (MSB) acquired the culture-expanded mesenchymal stem cell (ceMSC) business of Osiris Therapeutics. In 2014, MSB plans for Phase 3 clinical trials in therapeutic areas including spinal fusion and intervertebral disc repair. DePuy Synthes Spine is expanding its collaboration with Brainlab through worldwide launch of navigation-ready instrumentation for its VIPER® 2 and EXPEDIUM® Spine systems, and an exclusive global agreement to co-market Airo® Mobile Intraoperative CT. (DePuy Synthes Spine, 10/10/13)

Nexus CMF entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Mayo Clinic to develop a hemiarthroplasty surgical approach using the Patient-Specific Temporomandibular Joint Fossa-Eminence Prosthesis System. (Nexus CMF, 10/10/13)

Zimmer Spine entered into an exclusive global agreement to distribute Frontier Medical Devices' Lateral Locking Interbody Cage. The device, intended for the treatment of degerenative disc disease and instability, fastens the cage rigidly to the lumbar vertebra and offers a variety of implant sizes. Global Orthopaedic Technology entered into an agreement with Optimized Ortho for the exclusive use of its knee simulation technology for the Australian market. Biomet reached a definitive agreement to acquire Lanx, manufacturer of spinal products including the Timberline® Lateral Approach and Aspen® Minimally Invasive fusion systems, for US $147MM in cash. The transaction is expected to close on or before 11/29/13. (Biomet, Inc., 10/7/13)

MiMedx entered into a distribution agreement with Medtronic and its SpinalGraft Technologies subsidiary to provide privately-labeled PURION® processed allograft, to be marketed for spinal applications. (MiMedx Group, Inc., 10/1/13)

To support Baxano Surgical's ex-U.S. expansion, Disortho in Colombia and Biomedical Tech in Mexico will commence distribution of AxiaLIF® Plus and VEO, while MediKon Saglik in Turkey will add iO-Flex® to its portfolio. MAKO markets the RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System and RESTORIS® family of implants to support MAKOplasty Partial Knee Resurfacing, and recently launched the MAKOplasty Total Hip Arthroplasty robotic arm application. ICAP Patent Brokerage announces for sale a low inflammatory demineralized bone material, Allogeneic Bone Gel™, for orthopaedic applications from PlusLife®. Animal studies have demonstrated the product's ability to produce vertebral fusion in the lumbar spine, and further studies have shown the material to be a carrier for autologous bone marrow cells, which supports spinal fusion and demonstrates new bone formation.
